What inspectors found
From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 3 December 2025 (assessment visit 3 September 2025). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.
Sowerby House is a residential care home providing accommodation and personal care. We conducted assessment activity between 2 October 2025 and 4 November 2005, including visits to the service on 2 and 8 October. The assessment was conducted to check the service had made required improvements following our last assessment in 2024. At the last assessment the provider was in breach of legal requirements relating to governance, risk management, infection prevention and control, medicines, consent and person centred care.

At this assessment we found the provider had made improvements and was no longer in breach of legal requirements. The provider was now managing risk effectively and the home was clean and generally well maintained. Care plans were more comprehensive. People received person-centred care, in line with their needs and preferences. The team worked in partnership well with other health professionals. Staff worked in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act and respected people’s choices and decisions. Staff were safely recruited, and received appropriate training and supervision. Staff were motivated and felt well supported by the registered manager.
Improvements had been made to medicines management, but further improvements were still needed to medicine records. Governance systems and audits were also more effective. However, there were still some occasions where aspects of care plans needed to be updated more consistently, and examples where care monitoring records needed to be completed more accurately, such as nutrition records. The provider responded promptly to our feedback.
