What inspectors found
From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 9 December 2024 (assessment visit 2 October 2024). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.
Alpine Lodge is a care home providing accommodation for personal and nursing care to older people, some of whom are living with dementia. The service can support up to 67 people. At the time of this inspection there were 56 people living at Alpine Lodge. At the last inspection the service was rated requires improvement, was in breach of regulations and we took enforcement action. We carried out this assessment in November 2024 to determine if improvements had been made. At this visit we found the service had made significant improvement and is rated good. The management team promoted safety, events and incidents were investigated, and lessons learnt to embed and promote good practice. Staff were kind and caring and delivered good care and treatment following evidence-based practice and people experienced good positive outcomes.

Safe
Good
We rated safe as good. We assessed all the quality statements. People were safeguarded from abuse and avoidable harm. Staff told us felt confident to raise any concerns. Staff knew how to report such concerns promptly. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests. Risk assessments about care were person-centred, proportionate, and regularly reviewed with the person, where possible. Robust recruitment procedures were in place. Medicines were managed safely. A staffing dependency tool was used and followed. The home was kept clean. We identified some areas required attention, which were a floor covering and kitchenettes, these are being addressed and resolved by the provider.

Effective
Good
We rated effective as good. We assessed all the quality statements. Staff comprehensively assessed people, so the care and treatment provided met their needs. This included both their mental and physical health and any personal circumstances that needed to be considered and any protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010. We observed staff interacted positively with people and were kind and caring. Staff worked with partners when assessing people’s needs and shared information to maintain continuity of care. Where people were assessed as lacking capacity to make a particular decision, the provider followed appropriate legislation.

Well-led
Good
We rated well- led as good. We assessed all the quality statements. The management team promoted an open transparent culture that was inclusive and met the needs of people. The management team were fully aware of their roles and responsibilities and the lines of accountability. The management team promoted an open transparent culture that was inclusive and met the needs of people. The management were inclusive, Staff spoke very highly of the team, particularly the manager. Staff told us things had really improved with the new manager. The provider had systems in place to quality monitor the service, Processes were much improved since our last visit. However, we found some minor issues, although identified had not been fully actioned. For example, the environment, infection control and medicine management. These have been addressed following our visit. The new systems need to be fully embedded into practice.
