At the time of assessment 17 people resided at the home; some people were living with dementia. There was no one living in the home with a primary need of learning disabilities or autistic people. The service user band of learning disabilities and autistic people had previously been part of the home’s registration. The provider no longer felt this was appropriate and applied to remove this from their registration.

The home is mainly, but not predominantly for people who follow the Jehovah’s Witness faith. The home is next door to The Kingdom Hall which is a meeting place for the congregation. People were supported to be involved with the religion of their choice.

We undertook this assessment due to the aged rating of the service. We assessed the quality statements from all key questions; safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.

We found breaches of the regulations of safe care and treatment and good governance.

People and their relatives told us they felt able to raise concerns with staff and were confident that these would be addressed.

We found there was evidence of good transitions from other care homes into Jah Jireh.

Families generally told us they were happy with the care provided for their relatives.

People told us they felt they had enough to eat and drink. However, people felt there was a lack of choice at mealtimes.

We found evidence that people’s pressure care, nutritional needs and personal care needs were appropriately monitored, recorded and supported.

We identified gaps in medicines management systems that required improvement.

We found that risk assessments were not always completed.

Consent from service users were noted in care plans. There were specific consent issues recorded for people who were Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Care plans were person-centred and reflected each individual’s choices and preferences. People’s cultural and religious needs were clearly identified and appropriately supported.
