This assessment took place in part due to concerns received from relatives of people who use the service. It also took place due to the time since the service was last assessed.

People were treated with kindness, dignity and respect. People and their relatives consistently told us they felt safe, well cared for and had trust in staff. The environment was described as clean, comfortable and welcoming.

Staff feedback reflected a positive and supportive culture, with staff feeling valued, listened to and confident to raise concerns. Strong leadership and teamwork were evident, and staff demonstrated good knowledge of people’s individual needs and preferences.

People’s health needs were well managed. There was effective use of equipment, appropriate involvement of health professionals, and positive outcomes were reported by families and evidenced. Relatives felt involved in care planning and said concerns were listened to and acted upon.

Staffing levels and deployment at certain times impacted people’s experience, including flexibility around routines, social interaction and access to activities. Mealtime experience and activity provision, particularly for people living with dementia, were inconsistent and required further development.

Some improvements were needed in governance and quality monitoring, including medicines auditing and care plan detail.
