We undertook this assessment due to some concerns raised about the quality of the services provided. The assessment included a total of 12 quality statements across the key questions of safe, caring, responsive and well-led. We found areas of good practice as well as some areas of concern. The scores for these areas have been combined with scores based on the key question ratings from the last inspection. Our overall rating remains good.
Staff were trained to identify and respond to safeguarding concerns. However, there were gaps in risk management and environmental safety. The provider took action during the inspection, but further improvements were needed to ensure consistent, person-centred safety.
Staff received regular mandatory training to ensure their knowledge and skills remained up to date. People and their relatives expressed confidence in staff knowledge and care. However, there were some gaps in staff knowledge which were addressed during the inspection. Recruitment processes met regulatory standards.
Medicines were managed safely and in line with individual needs. Minor risks were identified in documentation and storage, however the provider took prompt action to address issues. Improvements were underway to enhance medicine supply and storage conditions.
Staff promoted independence, choice, and compassionate care. People felt listened to and supported in daily decisions.
Staff felt supported through flexible working and constructive supervision. Staff tailored care to address inequalities and made reasonable adjustments to improve outcomes. However, the quality of care plans varied and updates were in progress to align with best practices. Engagement with relatives in care planning and reviewing was limited. The provider recognised this as an area for improvement.
Throughout the inspection, the provider demonstrated openness, transparency, and a commitment to improvement with a clear understanding of legal responsibilities.
While recent changes to leadership had caused some uncertainty, the provider remained visible and accessible, helping foster a positive and open culture. People, relatives, and staff felt confident raising concerns, supported by clear policies.
Governance systems required strengthening; however the provider had begun addressing gaps through action plans and increased awareness of quality and safety. Further work was needed to ensure robust and sustainable oversight.
