About the service
Helpful Home Care LTD is a domiciliary care agency providing personal care, to adults in their own homes in the community. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) only inspects where people receive personal care. This is help with tasks relating to personal hygiene and eating. Key findings
We carried out this assessment on 25 to 28 August 2026. This service was previously rated as good. We carried out this assessment to confirm whether the rating of good remains accurate. This report does not provide detailed information on areas where we found practice continues to meet a good standard. Instead, our findings focus on any areas where the service needs to improve or where we found exceptional practice.
We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed autistic people and people with a learning disabilityrespect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. At the time of the assessment, the service was not supporting any people with a learning disability, but the providerhad regard to ‘Right support, right care, right culture’.
The provider demonstrated a positive learning culture, where safeguarding concerns were recognised and acted upon appropriately. Staff had received safeguarding training and were able to clearly describe their safeguarding responsibilities, including recognising signs of abuse and how to report and escalate concerns to help keep people safe.
Risks to people's health, safety and wellbeing were assessed and managed effectively, while supporting people to maintain as much independence and choice as possible. Medicines were managed safely.
The provider ensured there were sufficient numbers of appropriately skilled, experienced and trained staff to meet people's needs. Staff received induction, training, supervision and ongoing support to carry out their roles effectively. Recruitment processes were robust and helped ensure only suitable staff were employed.
People's needs were assessed before care commenced, and care was delivered in line with current good practice guidance. Staff worked closely with healthcare professionals and were kept informed of changes to people's needs. One staff member told us, "When there’s changes to people's needs we are informed straight away. For example, as soon as a doctor has spoken to the office staff, care staff are told right away."
Systems were in place to monitor people's outcomes and ensure care remained effective. Staff sought people's consent and respected their rights when providing support. They demonstrated a commitment to promoting people's choice and independence. They described supporting people to make informed decisions by providing options, explaining the potential benefits of different choices and respecting people's preferences about how their care was delivered.
People were treated with kindness, compassion and dignity. Feedback consistently demonstrated positive relationships between staff and the people they supported. One staff member told us, "The bond we've created with service users; it's easy to help them." Care was person-centred and reflected people's preferences and routines. The provider regularly sought feedback from people and acted upon it to improve the service.
The provider demonstrated strong leadership and a positive culture. Staff were proud of the organisation and spoke highly of the management team. One staff member said, "We are a bespoke company for local people using local staff. I am proud to work for Helpful Homecare." Staff felt valued and supported, with another commenting, "Managers welcome feedback. In supervision with [manager], I was given positive feedback about me."
Governance arrangements were effective in maintaining oversight of the service and driving continuous improvement. The provider was committed to learning, innovation and delivering high-quality care that achieved positive outcomes for people.
