Because the service supports learning disabled and autistic people, we assessed it against CQC's Right Support, Right Care, Right Culture guidance. This guidance focuses on making sure people are treated with respect, have choice and independence, and are supported to be part of their local community.

Staff were trained and knew how to keep people safe, including how to recognise and report safeguarding concerns. Before people started using the service, their care and support needs were assessed. Care plans and risk assessments were then regularly reviewed to make sure they stayed up to date. Staff understood people's individual risks, including risks linked to specific health conditions, and used care plans and risk assessments to help keep people safe.

Staff encouraged people to be as independent as possible and where this formed a part of people’s care packages, supported them to take part in activities and hobbies they enjoyed. They also helped people stay connected to their local communities and staff worked with people when needed to build their confidence. There were enough trained staff to meet people's needs, and most care call visits were provided on time. Staff followed good infection prevention and control practices.

Staff understood the importance of supporting people to make their own choices about everyday matters, such as what they wanted to eat, drink or wear, in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005. People were treated with kindness, dignity and respect, and staff took steps to protect their privacy. Staff also understood people's different communication needs. They used a range of methods, including known communication tools, recognising body language and facial expressions, to help people express their wishes and make choices.

The management team monitored the quality of the service and used data analysis performance reports and other information to identify areas for improvement. During the assessment, the registered manager told us they would introduce more detailed audits and action plans to strengthen oversight further.

There was a positive and inclusive culture within the service. People, relatives and staff told us they felt comfortable raising questions, concerns or suggestions and were confident they would be listened to and acted upon. Overall, feedback about the service was very positive.
