The provider had taken over the service in August 2024 and had implemented new systems and processes to assess, monitor and improve the safety and quality of the service. The service had embedded most systems and had robust action plans and resources to continue to make the improvements planned.
The provider had interim managers, clinical lead and leaders and were actively recruiting and training new leaders in the vision, strategy and culture of the provider. There were enough trained staff deployed to meet people’s needs. The provider regularly checked staff practice and competencies and ensured staff were supported through regular supervision. Staff were recruited using safe recruitment practices.
Improvements were required to embed infection prevention and control practices and to actively involve people in their care planning and reviews. People’s risks were assessed and care plans provided staff with the information they needed to mitigate known risks. People’s care plans were reviewed regularly or as their needs changed.
Staff knew how to seek medical assistance in emergencies and kept people’s families informed. People’s health was regularly monitored and people had access to their GP at weekly visits. Staff worked well with the GP and district nurses and referrals were made to health professionals where required. Staff followed health professionals advice and provided people with their prescribed care.
Staff understood how to recognise, and report concerns. The provider had systems in place to report safeguarding issues and carry out any relevant investigations. Staff were encouraged to speak up if they had any concerns about how the service was run. The provider used any incidents and complaints to learn from and improve the service.
People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff sought people’s consent before providing care and encouraged people to maintain their independence.
The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment and governance. Significant improvements had been made, and the provider was no longer in breach of this regulation. This service is no longer in special measures.
