St Catherines is a converted building providing accommodation and personal and nursing care to 37 older people at the time of the inspection. The service is registered to support up to 39 people.

At our last inspection, published 28 December 2017, we rated this service as good.

Since our last inspection, there was a new registered manager in post. They had been in post since September 2025. There were systems in place to help improve people’s lives and experiences.

Staff were motivated to ensure people were happy and well cared for.

Medicines management systems were in place and managed well.

Staff knew how to recognise and report any concerns relating to abuse. Information was displayed and safeguarding concerns were reported appropriately in most cases.

Infection prevention and control was practiced. The environment was clean, however there were some areas that needed repair and maintenance. Safety checks had been completed.

Where we found gaps in recording, immediate action was taken in response to our feedback to address this.

The registered manager spent time around the home providing support and guidance. People, relatives and staff were positive about their presence, guidance and approach.

People, relatives and staff had opportunities for meetings and sharing their views. People’s choices were sought, and they were supported in accordance with their wishes and needs in most cases. Relatives were involved with people’s care planning and reviews.

Most people said they enjoyed the food. The mealtime experience needed some further development to ensure people received the food they liked, it felt less task led and extra helpings were available. People felt they had enough to do with their time, and they had appropriate access to support services.

There were enough staff to meet people’s needs, although at times people and staff said they were busy. Staff were positive about the service they provided, the management team and liked working there.
