We carried out this assessment to review actions taken by the provider following our last inspection. The previous report was published in July 2023. At that time, the service was rated requires improvement in the safe, effective, responsive and well led key questions, and overall. There were breaches of regulations relating to safeguarding, premises and equipment, good governance and staffing.

In this assessment, we reviewed all the quality statements under the safe, effective, responsive and well led key questions. We found improvements had been made and the provider was no longer in breach of regulations. The ratings for these key questions have changed to good. The ratings for the quality statements we did not assess remain unchanged. This means the overall rating for the service has changed to good.

The restrictions which were placed on people had been reviewed to ensure they were proportionate and did not amount to blanket restrictions. People were empowered and supported to be as independent as possible, and staff were strong advocates for them when required. There was a focus on independence, recovery and positive risk taking alongside any necessary restrictions for safety. People were sensitively supported to make decisions or give consent.

Changes had been made to improve the environment. All rooms were now private and personalised and there was ongoing redecoration and maintenance throughout the home. Staff knew people well. They respected people’s privacy and dignity and were kind and compassionate in their approach.

Improvements had been made to governance and oversight which helped the registered manager identify shortfalls and take action where necessary to ensure good quality care was provided. Staff worked closely with other agencies to ensure people received effective support and joined up care. Professionals gave positive feedback about the service.

Staff compliance with training and supervision had improved, and staff told us they felt well supported. Staff were positive about working at the service and felt able to raise concerns or provide feedback.

Risks and people’s needs were robustly assessed, and staff were able to clearly describe how they safely supported people in day to day care. Care plans were clear and person-centred and were regularly updated to ensure information remained relevant.
