During this inspection we spoke with people who lived at the service, their relatives, staff, the registered manager, and a provider representative. We also spoke with other health and social care professionals who regularly supported people who lived at the home. We looked at care plans and monitoring records, medicines administration records, recruitment processes and examples of quality assurance and health and safety records.
We rated this service partially under our previous methodology in July 2024, where it was inspected and rated as requires improvement overall. We undertook this inspection to see if improvements had been made. We reviewed all 5 key questions.
There had been significant changes to the leadership and staffing at the home. We found improvements had been made in people’s safety, the environment, promotion of people’s independence and how the service was led. There had been improvement in the provider’s oversight of the home.
However, some further development and embedding of governance systems were required, to ensure people consistently benefited from living in a well-run home. These included in relation to risk and medicines management, checks on the storage of substances which may be harmful to people if ingested, and the level of detail and accuracy of people’s care records, such as people’s capacity assessments. Further embedding of staff understanding of available support and continual refinement of processes for communicating the direction and culture of the home were required.
The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulation in relation to governance. Improvements were found at this assessment, and the provider was no longer in breach of this regulation, although some further improvements are required in this area.
Staff were caring, valued the bonds they had built with people and were motivated to provide good care to people. Staff assessed people’s needs before they moved into the home to make sure they could meet their needs safely. Staff worked collaboratively with other health and social care professionals to ensure people who are often subject to social exclusion were able to access the support they wanted.
