Safe
Good
People felt safe from the risk of harm or abuse and staff knew how to identify and manage safeguarding. Staff supported people who had capacity to make decisions about risk. Risk assessments were completed to promote independence and minimise risks to people. Additional professional support and clear risk plans were obtained where needed. Care plans were clear and detailed with sufficient guidance for staff to keep people as safe as possible. There were sufficient, safely recruited staff who had received training to meet peoples’ needs.
-
Effective
Good
Peoples’ care, support and treatment reflected their needs and any protected equality characteristics. Staff knew how to respond to peoples’ specific health needs such as recognising a change in health status. Changes were discussed daily in handover and the daily head of department meetings. People were supported to have access to appropriate health professionals. For example, medical tests were followed up, medicines optimisation was reviewed with the pharmacy and GPs and pain relief was considered.
-
Caring
Good
People were cared for by staff who were kind and respectful. Staff promoted peoples’ choice and independence in a personalised way. For example, people living with complex dementia often had complex behaviours which staff sought to understand and enable their freedom. Policies and practice supported people to have maximum choice and control over their lives.
-
Well-led
Good
There were clear and effective governance, management and accountability arrangements in place. An extensive re-decoration programme was underway throughout the communal areas and the disruption had been managed well. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities and staff felt well supported by the provider. Management and staff meetings were held regularly and any areas for improvement discussed. The provider held staff meetings without management and the registered manager and office e team felt well supported by them. Audits were completed and up to date with monitoring ensuring risks were managed and trends addressed. The management team were open and honest recognising their responsibilities under the duty of candour. CQC had been appropriately notified of significant events. Staff spoke positively about working at the home and recognised the complex needs of the people they supported.
