What inspectors found
From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 27 January 2026 (assessment visit 20 October 2025). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.
Date of Assessment 8 December and 16 December 2025. Wilton House is a residential care home, providing accommodation and personal care to older adults and younger adults with a range of support needs, including those living with dementia, mental health, physical disabilities, sensory impairments and learning disabilities. The service can accommodate up to 26 people, at the time of our assessment 19 people were living at the service. People were supported across 5 houses. An assessment had been undertaken of a specialist service that is used by autistic people or people with a learning disability. We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. At the last inspection the service was rated requires improvement, was in breach of regulations in relation to safety, environment and governance and we took enforcement action. We carried out this focused assessment to see if improvements had been made. At this visit we found the service had made some improvements, but further improvements were required. Whilst overarching quality and safety systems were in place, these had not been effective in identifying concerns. We identified breaches in relation to managing medicines, governance, and managing risks.

People were protected from the risk of abuse. Environmental safety checks were in place; however, they required strengthening to ensure all risks were fully identified. Care plans had been updated and were more reflective of people’s health and wellbeing needs, although we found some still required further updating and strengthening. This were promptly addressed by the registered manager. People accessed healthcare professionals when they needed them, and they received their medicines as prescribed, although medicines management and oversight needed improvement.
Systems to prevent and control infection were in place but also required strengthening. A complaints procedure was available in formats people could understand. Staff treated people with dignity and respected their privacy, and people took part in a range of activities that were meaningful to them.
Processes were in place to monitor the quality and safety of the service, but further improvement had been required to ensure learning was consistently identified and acted upon. The views of people using the service, as well as staff, were gathered through surveys and meetings. Staff reported they received good support from the manager. Governance systems had improved but required further development and embedding into practice to ensure improvements continued and were applied consistently.
Following the assessment, the registered manager took prompt action to address the short falls identified.
