Who the service is for

This is a specialist service for younger people who have a learning disability and/or who are autistic. We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence, and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

Key findings

We carried out this assessment on 8 September to 10 September 2026. This service was previously rated as good. We carried out this assessment to confirm whether the rating of good remains accurate. This report does not provide detailed information on areas where we found practice continues to meet a good standard. Instead, our findings focus on any areas where the service needs to improve or where we found exceptional practice.

People told us they felt safe living at the home and relatives spoke positively about the care and support provided. People were supported by a stable staff team who had the skills and knowledge to provide effective support. Risks were assessed and people were actively involved in the process. A positive risk-taking approach was encouraged, supporting people to make informed choices whilst maintaining their safety, independence and wellbeing. The registered manager said, “How do you grow and develop as a person if you do not take risks? If something goes wrong, we look at what happened and what can we do and be there for them.”

The environment was homely, clean, well maintained and free from hazards, with appropriate safety checks completed. Medicines were managed safely across the home, and people were supported to manage their medicines independently, where appropriate. Staff understood their responsibility to safeguard people from the risk of abuse; they were knowledgeable about what concerns they would need to report and to whom.

People had opportunities to visit and spend time at the service prior to moving in, this was part of the assessment process. The provider worked in partnership with health and social care professionals to support positive outcomes and ensure continuity of care. The registered manager told us how they ensured they matched people to each other, for example around their interests, to ensure they were more settled from the beginning and lived well together.

The provider was exceptional at promoting people’s independence, ensuring people were supported to have maximum choice and control over their lives. A staff member said, “We pride ourselves in encouraging young people’s independence and I really enjoy seeing them grow and improve as they continue with us on a journey.” People were at the centre of the planning and review of their support; this ensured they received personalised care in line with their preferences and needs. Health and social care professionals were consistently positive about how the provider worked with them to ensure people were supported appropriately. Staff were observed encouraging independence and supporting people to make choices. Staff interacted with people in a kind and considerate manner, treating them with dignity and respect.

The registered manager promoted a strong shared vision and culture within the service. Staff described an open, supportive culture and they enjoyed working together and at the home. A staff member said, “I feel at Kings Park Road we have a very good close-knit team that are strong and work really well with each other and most importantly, have a great rapport with the young people.” Staff provided positive feedback about the registered manager. Systems and processes were in place to review and monitor the safety and quality of care whilst driving improvements.
