We carried out an assessment of Broom Lane which commenced on 29 August 2024 and ended on 30 September 2024. Broom Lane is a ‘care home’ that provides care and support to older people. Some people were living with dementia. The service can accommodate up to 57 people. At the time of the assessment 54 people were living at Broom Lane Care Home. This was the first inspection of a newly registered provider. At this assessment, we looked at all key questions. During the assessment we carried out a tour of the home and found many areas were in need of a deep clean and some items such as armchairs were worn and stained. We informed the management team who took actions to address these areas. However, these had not been identified prior to our inspection and we need to be confident infection control is identified and actioned in a timely way. Medicine management was not always effective. We found 2 breaches of regulation in relation to infection prevention and control and medicine management. People were safeguarded from the risk of abuse and risks associated with people’s care were identified. However, care plans required more detail and information was not always current. Staff knew people well and explained how they mitigated risks.
-
Effective
Good
People’s care plans and risk assessments were regularly reviewed; however, some care documentation was contradictory and required updating to reflect people’s current needs. The management team had recognised this and were taking action to address the issues. People told us they had access to healthcare professionals and told us staff understood their needs. People spoke highly of the meals and snack provided and told us they were presented with choices.
-
Caring
Good
Care plans recorded some information, however some required improvements to ensure they captured peoples individualised preferences and backgrounds. This had been identified by the provider, who were taking action to address this issue. We observed staff interacting with people in a kind and caring way. People and relatives told us they were treated well and were happy with living at the service.
-
Responsive
Good
Staff knew people well and were responsive to people’s needs. people’s feedback had been sought and most people were happy with the support they received. However, some surveys identified some areas that could improve but there was no action plan to address these comments. People told us they felt listened to and felt comfortable approaching staff for support. The provider had a complaints procedure and recorded responses to complaints received.

Well-led
No rating
We found 1 breach of regulation in relation to good governance. We reviewed systems and processes in place to monitor the service and found they were not always effective.
