We were assured that this service met good infection prevention and control guidelines as a designated care setting.
We found the following examples of good practice. ● The provider had considered and adapted one part of the home to be used as a designated setting, with its own entrance to minimise the risk of cross infection. Management had implemented safe infection control systems in line with current guidance. This ensured they were able to care for people safely who had tested positive for Covid-19 in hospital and needed to be transferred to a care home. ● Staff would be deployed to work solely in part of the home, identified as a designated setting unit to reduce risks of cross infection to others. ● The provider had implemented systems to ensure staff did not work in other health or social care services, as well as other parts of the home, which reduced the risk of cross transmission. ● The provider would increase the working hours for domestic staff to ensure regular cleaning and sanitising of the environment took place throughout the week. ● Systems were in place to ensure staff received up to date guidance and training to ensure those staff continued to meet government guidelines for safe infection control practices to reduce the risk of cross infection. ● The management of the designated setting will include support from a registered manager from one of the provider's other home's who has experience of supporting people in a designated setting. Lessons learnt will be shared to ensure positive outcomes for people.
