What inspectors found
From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 12 March 2026 (assessment visit 10 December 2025). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.
Date of assessment: assessment activity started on 31 December 2025 and concluded on 28 January 2026. We visited the service on the 5, 11 and 14 January 2026. Exmoor Drive is a residential care home providing accommodation and personal care for up to 12 people with a learning disability. At the time of our visit 9 people were using the service. Accommodation is provided across 3 connecting bungalows which are also known as units. During the inspection we assessed all the quality statements under the key questions of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led. We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. This inspection was carried out in part in response to concerns received around staff understanding and knowledge about bowel management and palliative care. Most staff had now received additional training in these areas. Medicines were managed safely and people received them as prescribed. Staff understood the safeguarding procedure and felt confident any concerns would be acted on. Staff felt people using the service were safe. We observed sufficient staffing levels to meet people’s needs. Staff had a good understanding of the people they supported and respected their individual needs and preferences. People had different ways of communicating and staff understood how best to share information for people to enable them to make their own choices and decisions. Further improvements were needed to ensure collaborative working and communication with external professionals was consistently met. The management team were open and honest and took action where improvements were needed. Systems had been developed to ensure better oversight. Audits and checks were carried out to monitor the care being provided.
