This is the first inspection since a new provider has taken over the service. Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way which was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. There were enough staff to support people, recruited safely and employed following appropriate checks. Staff had received appropriate training to meet people’s needs and received ongoing observation, supervision and appraisal to promote wellbeing and development. Lessons learned were shared with staff in response to incidents and accidents.

Staff worked extremely well with health care professionals to support people’s physical and emotional well-being and feedback we received from professionals was very positive. People were supported to take their medicines by staff who had the correct skills to support them.

We found a culture of kindness, safety and professionalism where members of the management team led by example. The registered manager was fully supported by the nominated individual who was a regular presence in the home. People using the service, their relatives and staff all spoke positively about their experiences of the service and the staff team.

People told us they were enabled to remain as independent as possible, supported when required by staff who were caring and responsive to their needs. Dietary and hydration needs were met and people told us they enjoyed the food at the service.

The registered manager and their team fostered an open culture where everyone’s thoughts and feelings were considered. Staff and people were kept up to date and consulted on changes within the service. Quality assurance systems were in place to provide good oversight and governance at the service; regular quality checks helped identify and address areas in need of improvement. Links had been formed with managers from the provider’s other services to share information, support and good practice.
