We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed autistic people and people with a learning disability respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. Bos Y’n Dre was a small family run service that did not employ staff and had had been supporting both individuals for over 20 years.

People received effective personalised care. Staff knew people exceptionally well and respected their decision and choices. Information was shared effectively and people were routinely involved in decision making. Staff respected people’s skills, valued their knowledge and supported people to be as independent as possible.

People’s care plans were accurate and informative and risks to people wellbeing had been assessed and mitigated. People received their medicines as prescribed. People regularly attended community placements and were supported to exercise and engage with activities they enjoyed.

The registered manager understood the requirements of the Mental Capacity Act and ensured people rights and freedoms were respected. Necessary Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards applications had been made and conditions complied with.

Governance arrangements were appropriate and the service’s policy documents accurately reflected it’s operations.

The service was clean and all necessary checks had been completed to ensure the safety of the service. However, carpeting in the service stairs was becoming worn and in need of replacement. Following feedback, the registered manager introduced new procedures to ensure staff training was regularly updated and began investigating arrangements to enable staff to have time off together.
