Overall, we rated this service as good.

The provider had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns. Staff were confident they would be heard, and any concerns would be investigated appropriately to keep people safe.

There were sufficient staff deployed to meet people's needs. Staff were recruited safely and had effective training, support and supervision. Medicines were mostly administered safely however, some areas of improvement were noted around administering times.

People’s needs were assessed and regularly reviewed. People and those important to them were involved in decisions about their care. Staff worked with health and social care professionals to enable people to access the care and treatment they required. The service had systems to ensure people’s needs were assessed and their care planned in accordance with best practice guidance and standards.

Staff ensured people’s care and support met individual needs and preferences. Staff told us they enjoyed working at the home and knew people well. People and their relatives praised the care they received and were happy and comfortable living in the home.

Professionals supporting the service were mostly very complimentary about the service.

External professionals who worked with the service mostly gave positive feedback about the care experiences of people and the communication from staff that enabled people to receive timely support where needed.

The home was well managed. The service had a range of quality monitoring processes There was a positive open culture fostered amongst the staff team and management which aligned with the jointly created values. Staff were able to raise concerns and told us the registered manager was approachable and supportive.

However, we did identify some areas of improvement during our assessment. We did see some areas where information provision needed improvement. This related to menu choices, life history information and end of life care planning.

Professionals identified palliative care as an area needing improvement to ensure people received appropriate support.

Improvement was needed to the management and recording of decisions within mental capacity assessments. The provider was responsive to this feedback during our inspection and started to address this.
