There had been a number of changes to the management of the service since the last assessment of Millreed Lodge. A new, experienced manager was appointed during this assessment.
We found governance systems had not always been effective in identifying issues in relation to matters including care documentation, safeguarding and staff practice in relation to the mental capacity act. Care records did not always reflect people’s needs and did not demonstrate any involvement of the person or, where appropriate, their family. Staff had not always recognised safeguarding issues and managed this in line with safeguarding protocols. Staff had not always worked in line with the mental capacity act when making best interest decisions.
The provider was responsive to the assessment process and made several immediate improvements. They provided us with evidence and assurances that improved systems were being implemented for management oversight of the service.
