People were supported by staff who generally knew them well and understood their needs. Care plans and risk assessments were in place and included relevant clinical information, such as guidance relating to falls, choking, skin integrity and medicines. People had access to healthcare professionals when needed, including GPs and specialist services, and medicines were managed safely. People told us they could ask for drinks, snacks or support when required. We observed many positive interactions, with staff addressing people by name and providing discreet support with personal care.

However, the inspection identified some areas for improvement. For example, environmental and infection prevention standards were not robust, particularly in the kitchen and dining areas, where cleanliness and hygiene were not consistently maintained. Staff were sometimes task-focused and not always visible or engaged in communal areas, particularly during mealtimes. This provider took prompt action to address this feedback.

The service listened to and acted upon complaints and incidents to continually improve care. They worked well with other professionals involved in people’s care to ensure continuity of care and equity in access.

The service had a competent leadership team that provided clear direction and supported the delivery of care that met the needs of people living there. The registered manager demonstrated compassion and a willingness to reflect and improve, and there was evidence of partnership working with health care professionals and families.
