Blandford Grange Care Home is a nursing care home providing personal and nursing care to people aged 65 and over. The home can accommodate up to 63 people in a purpose-built building. The accommodation is over three floors with a lounge and dining area on each floor.

At the time of the assessment the service supported 54 people.

This assessment was prompted by concerns raised with us about the safety and management of the service.

During the inspection weassessed the quality statements under the key questions of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

People received safe and dignified care and support from well-trained, knowledgeable staff. There were enough staff on duty to promptly meet people’s needs. Risks to people were understood and managed effectively to reduce the likelihood of harm. Staff knew how to safeguard people and protect their well-being.

Staff supported people to live healthy lives. Meals were nutritionally balanced and met people’s dietary needs. People were encouraged to be mobile, where possible, and to take part in activities and socialise with others.

The provider’s culture was based on openness and respect. The registered manager and staff team were committed to providing safe and compassionate care. They valued people, relatives, and staff and listened to their views. Regular audits were used to ensure most areas of the service were running effectively. However, these didn’t identify some of the shortfalls in medicine procedures we found.
