What inspectors found
From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 27 October 2026 (assessment visit 25 August 2026). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.
Date of Assessment: 8 October 2026. The service is a nursing home providing support to older people, younger people, and people living with dementia, mental health conditions or physical disabilities. The home can accommodate up to 38 people. At the time of our assessment there were 30 people living at the home. We found 3 of these people had a learning disability. We asked the provider to add the service user band of learning disability to their registration. We carried out an assessment looking at all the quality statements and all key questions. Our decision to inspect the service was due to concerns we had received regarding governance, person centred care, staffing and infection prevention and control. At our last assessment the service was rated good. At this assessment the provider remained good.

We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it. We found the provider was meeting the principles of Right support, right care, right culture.
The service was a large home, bigger than most domestic style properties. Cambron House accommodates up to 38 people in 1 adapted building. This is larger than current best practice guidance. However, people with a learning disability had regular contact with external learning disability professionals.
People were safeguarded from the risk of abuse. Staff understood how to protect people and raised concerns when appropriate. The management team analysed accidents and incidents to identify trends and patterns. The registered manager continually looked for learning opportunities and made changes to improve practice. Risks associated with people's care were not always documented effectively. However, following our inspection the management team took timely actions to address concerns and mitigate risks. Checks and routine maintenance were carried out to ensure the building and equipment were safe. We identified some minor issues with the environment which the management team addressed immediately. We carried out a tour of the home and found some minor issues relating to infection prevention and control. We found some minor issues with medicine records which were thoroughly investigated following our inspection. The provider had a system in place to ensure staff were recruited safely. Staff told us they felt supported and received training and supervision sessions to carry out their role effectively.
People were supported to access nutrition and hydration, although documentation required review to accurately reflect people’s intake. We saw people’s needs were assessed prior to them moving into the home and on a regular basis. However, documentation could be improved, and reviews required more information to clearly evidence people’s changing needs had been identified.
Staff were kind and caring although at times task focused. People told us staff were friendly and approachable. People had access to an activity co-ordinator who provided and arranged social stimulation and events.
Information was provided to people and relatives and displayed throughout the home. The provider had a complaints procedure and took action to address concerns raised with them.
Staff were complimentary about the management team and told us they were knowledgeable and approachable. Staff had access to a whistle blowing procedure and raised concerns when they needed to. Staff were confident issues raised would be addressed and resolved. As part of this inspection, we identified some concerns which had not previously been identified. The registered manager took action to improve the service and gave reassurances that processes had been reviewed.
