People were protected from the risk of harm and abuse. Staff demonstrated a good understanding of safeguarding procedures and reported concerns promptly. Care records were personalised and regularly reviewed using recognised assessment tools, which supported care to remain relevant and up-to-date. Staff worked closely with external professionals and referrals to healthcare services were made promptly when required.
Staff knew people well and understood individual needs. Interactions were kind, respectful and dignified. People had access to nutritious, home-cooked meals. Mealtimes were unrushed and relaxed, which encouraged social interaction and promoted a positive dining experience.
At the time of the assessment there was not a registered manager in post following the departure of the previous registered manager the week before our site visit. The provider ensured there were effective management oversight and the deputy manager confidently supported the assessment. The deputy manager operated an open-door approach, was highly visible and approachable throughout the home. People and their relatives were encouraged to share feedback, and staff responded to concerns promptly and appropriately. Although newly appointed, the deputy manager showed a clear commitment to maintaining and strengthening standards of care. Several new governance systems had already been introduced, which staff and people reported had a positive impact on the service.
