What inspectors found

From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 22 April 2024 (assessment visit 8 December 2023). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.

Sussex Grange Home Care is a domiciliary care agency that provides personal care to people living in their own home. The provider provides support to older people, people living with dementia and people with physical disabilities. Not everyone who used the service received personal care. CQC only assesses where people receive personal care. This is help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. Where they do, we also consider any wider social care provided. At the time of assessment, 43 people were receiving support with personal care.

This was an ‘assessment using remote technology’. This means we did not visit the office location and instead used technology such as electronic file sharing to gather information, and video and phone calls to engage with people using the service. We spoke with 3 people, 2 relatives and 1 friend about their experience of the support provided. We spoke with the registered manager, the deputy manager, director and 5 members of staff.

We started off-site assessment activity on 13 December 2023 and ended on 8 January 2024. We looked at 5 quality statements; Safeguarding; Involving people to manage risks; Safe and effective staffing; Independence, choice and control and Equity in experiences and outcomes.

  1. Safe

    Good

People were protected from the risk of harm and abuse. Staff knew the potential risks to people and what actions to take with any concerns. Leaders told us how they recruit staff based on them having the right values. Staff were recruited safely and in line with the providers recruitment policies and procedures. There were suitable numbers of trained staff who knew people well.

  2. Caring

    Good

People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible. The provider had policies and systems in place that supported this practice. Staff consistently demonstrated a strong person-centred approach, with values that aligned with the providers’ policies and procedures. They gave examples of how they supported people, sometimes by going beyond their role. This ensured people’s quality of life was enhanced.

  3. Responsive

    Good

People were at the centre of their care and support. Staff knew them well and regularly obtained feedback to ensure all care needs were met. The culture of the provider was open and transparent. People and their relatives felt able to raise any issues or concerns.

Questions to ask the service
