What inspectors found

From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 31 October 2024 (assessment visit 11 September 2024). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.

This inspection was prompted by concerns about infection prevention, medicines management, and staff call scheduling. We conducted a targeted assessment focused on 6 quality statements under the key questions: Is the service safe and well-led?

Read the full summary

The assessment team consisted of an inspector and an Expert by Experience. The on-site inspection was announced, and we gave the provider 48 hours’ notice to ensure the registered manager would be available. Inspection activity began on 22 August and concluded on 28 August 2024.

We found no evidence that people were at risk of harm. Medicines were well-organised, infection control measures followed best practices, and staff call scheduling was well-coordinated, ensuring punctuality. Staff provided consistent care, supporting the same group of people to meet their personal needs and routines.

Staff were thoroughly vetted and trained, with the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver safe care. Safeguarding procedures were in place, with staff trained to recognise and report abuse. Managers worked with relevant agencies to ensure people's safety when concerns arose.

The provider maintained effective oversight systems to ensure the quality and safety of the service. The managers and staff understood the importance of continuous improvement and learning lessons when things went wrong.

  1. Safe

    Good

Based on the findings of this assessment we found no issues. This meant people remained safe and protected from avoidable harm.

Staff understood how to safeguard people. People were cared for and supported by staff who knew how to manage risks they might face. Staff were usually punctual for their scheduled calls and appropriately trained and supported. Staffs’ suitability and fitness to work in adult social care was also thoroughly assessed. Medicines systems were still well-organised, and people received their prescribed medicines as and when they should. Staff continued to follow current best practice guidelines regarding the prevention and control of infection including, those associated with COVID-19.

  2. Well-led

    Good

Based on the findings of this assessment, we found no issues. This meant the service continued to be consistently managed and well-led. Leaders and the culture they created promoted good-quality, safe care.

The quality and safety of the home care service people received was routinely monitored and assured by managers and senior staff through regular audits and checks. People were also complimentary about the way the service was managed, and how approachable the office-based managers and staff were.
