The service provides personal care to older people, and people living with dementia, mental health, sensory impairment, and physical disability. Not everyone who used the service received personal care.
At the time of this assessment there were 31 people in receipt of personal care. The inspection was carried out due to the length of time since the last inspection.
We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed autistic people and people with a learning disability respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. At the time of the assessment, the service was not supporting any autistic people or people with a learning disability, but the provider had regard to ‘Right support, right care, right culture’.
The provider ensured people received safe, effective and well-coordinated care that was centred around their individual needs and preferences. Staff knew how to raise safeguarding concerns and felt confident any issues they reported would be addressed.
People's needs were assessed, with their views and those of their families considered throughout the care planning process. Detailed care plans and risk assessments provided clear guidance for staff and were regularly reviewed to ensure support reflected people's current needs and wishes.
The provider used electronic systems to plan care and manage staffing effectively. Good communication between staff and managers helped ensure people received consistent, well-coordinated support. Staff were recruited safely and received the training, supervision and support required to carry out their roles.
Medicines were administered as prescribed, and staff could clearly explain the appropriate procedures to follow in the event of an error or medical emergency.
The service was well managed, with quality assurance systems to monitor and improve standards of care. The registered manager actively sought and acted on feedback from people, relatives and staff to drive continuous improvement. Staff worked collaboratively with families and professionals to ensure people's needs were met and described a positive, person-centred culture.
