We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.
People were supported in a safe, caring and person-centred environment. Staff understood people’s needs well and provided support that promoted independence, dignity and inclusion. People were supported to lead active lives as part of their local community. Feedback from people, their relatives and professionals was positive about the care and support provided, and described staff as kind and responsive.
Leaders were visible and approachable, and there was a positive and open culture within the service. Staff felt supported and able to raise concerns, and there was evidence of collaborative working with external partners to meet people’s needs.
Some governance systems were not always sufficiently robust. Policies were not always aligned with current legislation, and systems to assess staff competency and monitor outcomes were not fully developed. There were also areas where the model of care required further review to ensure it fully reflected best practice guidance in relation to supported living.
Overall, the service provided good quality care that supported people to live independently and maintain control over their lives.
