What inspectors found

From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 4 March 2025 (assessment visit 4 June 2024). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.

Amberley House is a residential care home providing accommodation and personal care for up to 30 people aged 65 and over, some of whom may be living with dementia. At the time of the inspection there were 4 people living at the home. This assessment was carried out to check if the provider had improved the quality of care since the last inspection. This was the first assessment carried out under our single assessment framework and was unannounced.

At our last inspection we found three breaches of regulation around ensuring people’s risks were robustly assessed, staff training and overall governance of the home, At this inspection we found the provider had addressed these and was no longer in breach of regulations.

We assessed a total of eight quality statements from the safe, effective and well-led key questions. The scores for these areas have been combined with scores based on the key question ratings from the last inspection. The assessment of these eight quality statements indicated good practice since the last inspection, however, our overall rating remains requires improvement. Amberley House needs to demonstrate they are able to embed and maintain good practice and quality of care. This will be checked at future assessments.

  1. Safe

    Good

We looked at four quality statements under the key question of safe. People told us they felt safe with the staff caring for them at Amberley House. Risks to people were appropriately assessed which allowed people to be safe in their environment. There were enough staff to ensure people’s care and support needs were met. The home was in the process of being redecorated and any maintenance issues were identified and addressed quickly.

  2. Effective

    No rating

We looked at one quality statement under the key question of effective. People’s care and support needs had been reviewed since the manger had come into post and new care plans written. These were person centred and gave staff guidance on people’s individual needs. There was a new system in place to robustly assess any new referrals to the home.

  3. Well-led

    No rating

Since the last inspection there had been a change in manager. The new manager was in the process of applying for CQC registration. There had been a significant improvement in the quality of care, overall governance and engagement with people and staff. There were updated auditing processes as well as staff supervision, and care plan reviews. Staff and people were positive about the manager and felt there was a shared direction.
