The inspection was unannounced and took place due to concerns we had relating to a safeguarding incident. The rating at the last inspection was “Good” and after this inspection has remained “Good”.

We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed autistic people and people with a learning disability respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. We found that the service supported people to have maximum choice and control of their lives.

Some areas of care plans, risk assessments and mental capacity assessments were not reflective of people’s needs and had not been updated recently. Medicines management was not always robust. We shared concerns with the provider who took immediate action to address these.

There were sufficient staff to meet people’s needs. Staff had been recruited following robust recruitment processes which had recently been reviewed and strengthened by the provider. Staff were kind, caring and attentive to the people they supported.

The environment was well maintained and personalised to people’s needs. People were supported to spend their time as they wanted to, visiting family and taking part in activities.

People’s health and emotional needs were met. People were supported by a consistent staff team who knew them well and could anticipate their needs and identify any changes in their presentation. Staff were knowledgeable about supporting people with Huntingdon’s.

There was a positive culture at the service, which was led by management and reinforced by staff.
