What inspectors found

From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 16 June 2025 (assessment visit 15 May 2025). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.

The Pines Residential Care Home provides accommodation, care and support for up to 13 adults who have learning disabilities and mental health needs. At the time of the inspection 12 people were living at the service. During the inspection we assessed the quality statements under the key questions of safe, effective and well led. This was a planned inspection to check the quality and safety of the care provided. The inspection took place between 19 May and 20 May 2025. We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. The service had an established registered manager who was proactive, they told us they thrived on delivering person-centred care. Safe systems were in place to monitor and enhance the quality of care. People can only be deprived of their liberty to receive care and treatment when this is in their best interests and legally authorised under the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA). In care homes, and some hospitals, this is usually through MCA application procedures called the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS). We checked whether the service was working within the principles of the MCA, whether appropriate legal authorisations were in place when needed to deprive a person of their liberty, and whether any conditions relating to those authorisations were being met. The registered manager understood the requirements of the service regarding people’s rights. Learning from adverse events was shared with staff in the service. Staff and relatives told us they felt comfortable raising concerns due to the registered manager’s openness and approachability. Staff demonstrated knowledge of people’s care needs, built on strong relationships.
