At the time of our assessment, we found staff were not always following fire safety procedures to ensure fire escape routes were clear of hazards. The provider rectified this straight away and put in place systems to remind staff about the importance of this.

Safe systems were in place for managing medicines and people received their medicines as prescribed. However, improvements were needed to the processes around managing medicines administered covertly to ensure the provider was following their own processes and recording that they had involved all relevant professionals in decision making. We discussed this with the provider who agreed to implement the changes.

There were enough suitably trained staff to care for people and meet their needs.

The provider had systems to safeguard people from abuse and avoidable harm. There were systems to learn when things went wrong.

The provider assessed and planned the management of risks to people’s safety and wellbeing.

The provider assessed people’s needs and created personalised care plans.

Staff worked with other healthcare professionals to monitor and meet people’s needs.

People consented to their care and treatment, when they were able, and were offered choices.

Staff were kind, supportive and knowledgeable. Staff told us they enjoyed working at the service and had the support they needed from managers.

People were supported to be independent and to make decisions about their care and the service.
