We carried out this responsive, out-of-hours inspection of The Belmont in response to some concerns about accidents and incidents which had occurred during the night. We reviewed 4 quality statements relating to safeguarding, safe environments, safe and effective staffing, and responding to people’s immediate needs. As the service was inspected less than a year ago, we focused on the identified concerns rather than reviewing every aspect of each quality statement. Therefore the rating for the service has not changed and has remained good.
The provider had systems in place to support people’s safety and respond to their needs. Safeguarding concerns were recorded, responded to appropriately and shared with relevant external partners. The provider had taken additional action to improve environmental safety, including installing further window restrictors and completing regular checks.
Staffing levels at night had increased since the previous inspection. The registered manager carried out regular out-of-hours visits, and staff had completed additional training in falls management, dementia and safeguarding. Staff told us they had enough time to carry out their roles and support people effectively.
The provider was analysing incidents and accidents and had identified additional falls-monitoring equipment would be beneficial.
The provider monitored call-bell response times monthly and followed up on occasions when responses exceeded the expected timeframe to identify the reason and whether further action was required.
