What inspectors found
From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 7 October 2026 (assessment visit 17 August 2026). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.
The Spinney Care Home provides care for adults of all ages with dementia and people with mental health conditions.
We undertook this assessment due to concerns we had received about the service.
People felt safe and received kind, respectful and person-centred care from staff who knew them well. Staff supported people to access healthcare, respon5ded when their health changed and worked effectively with external professionals. People were involved in decisions and generally received care that reflected their needs, preferences and communication requirements. Staff described an open and inclusive culture and felt able to raise concerns with leaders.

However, the provider needed to strengthen its routine checks so environmental, recruitment and medicines issues were consistently identified. Staff supervision needed to become regular, some people wanted more meaningful activities and opportunities to spend time outdoors, and discussions about future care did not always take place consistently.
Leaders engaged positively with the assessment and acted promptly on the feedback received. They addressed the immediate environmental and recruitment concerns, addressed concerns raised around medicines, began structured staff supervision and submitted an updated governance action plan. These actions demonstrated responsiveness and a wiliness to improve the quality of the service.
