What inspectors found

From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 6 May 2025 (assessment visit 19 February 2025). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.

The assessment took place between 26 February and 4 March 2025. Orchardown Rest Home is a residential care home providing accommodation for persons who require personal care for up to 17 people. The service provides support to older people, some of whom live with dementia. At the time of our assessment there were 14 people using the service. This inspection was to follow up on a previous breach of Regulation 12 Safe Care and Treatment. At this inspection we found sufficient improvements had been made to accident, incident and safeguarding processes and the breach had been met. We identified some areas of improvement needed to documentation including more person-centred care plans and risk assessments, however, staff knew people extremely well, so the impact on people had been minimised.
Staff treated people with kindness and people told us they felt well looked after and enjoyed living at Orchardown Rest Home. People received person centred care in the way they chose. Staff spent time with people encouraging them to participate in activities and maintain important relationships. Some people went out on their own or with families regularly, others were taken out by staff to access healthcare appointments, to go shopping or out to a local café to help prevent isolation and loneliness. Staff told us they received appropriate training and support to enable them to care for people safely. Feedback from people and relatives was positive and we observed some lovely interactions between staff and people living at the home. Relatives felt involved and told us communication was good. The service appeared clean and tidy and people’s rooms were personalised.
