We found the following examples of good practice.
● Staff had supported a person with a learning disability to understand about COVID-19, why staff needed to wear PPE and why they needed to be tested. They used picture cards and pictorial symbols as well as British Sign Language (BSL) to help them to understand. ● On their arrival at the home, visitors were screened for symptoms of COVID-19, were required to complete a lateral flow test and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This ensured visits could take place safely in line with current guidance. ● People were supported to go outside every day to local parks or for a local drive and a hot drink in order to keep people active and to support their well being. Increased art and craft activities were also offered to people. ● Staff had completed training in hand washing and how to don and doff PPE correctly. Competencies were also carried out to ensure staff were carrying this out in line with government guidelines. ● When a person tested positive for COVID-19 they were supported to isolate in line with guidance. A staff team was allocated to work solely with them which reduced the spread of infection. ● Staff observed social distancing protocols where possible. The provider had adjusted the layout of the home to ensure social distancing guidelines were followed, this included seating arrangements at mealtimes. This helped to reduce the spread of infection.
