We were prompted to inspect the care home because of the age of their previous Care Quality Commission [CQC] rating which was good [published 8 October 2019].
This inspection was conducted by 2 adult social care inspectors and was unannounced. We reviewed 6 quality statements relating to how the provider managed: safeguarding and consent; risk; the homes environment; staff recruitment, training and support, and staffing levels; independence, choice, and control; and equity in experience and outcomes. As we did not review all the quality statements associated with the 3 key questions, Is the service safe, caring and responsive, we used the ratings awarded at their last inspection to calculate the overall rating.
Based on the findings of this inspection we continue to rate the service good overall.
People received fair and equal care and treatment. Staff treated people with respect, kindness, and compassion. Managers and staff understood how to safeguard people and supported people to stay safe. They also understood and managed risk well. Staff made sure people understood their care and support needs which enabled them to give informed consent. Staff involved people and, where they did not have capacity, those important to them took decisions in people’s best interests. The environment remains safe and has been refurbished since our last inspection. Staff promoted independence and choice, so people knew their rights and had control over their own care and well-being.
Staff recruitment practices remained safe. There were enough staff with the right levels of knowledge, skills, and experience to meet people’s needs and keep them safe from avoidable harm. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities. Staff were valued, supported, and received all the relevant training they needed to perform their roles and responsibilities well.
