What inspectors found

From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 31 December 2025 (assessment visit 16 September 2025). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.

Date of Assessment: 30 September to 6 October 2025. The inspection was prompted in part by notification of an incident following which a person using the service sustained a serious injury. This incident is subject to further investigation by CQC as to whether any regulatory action should be taken. As a result, this inspection did not examine the circumstances of the incident. However, the information shared with CQC about the incident indicated potential concerns about the management of skin integrity risks. This inspection examined those risks.

We found some shortfalls in relation to good governance. We found the provider was in breach of 1 regulation in relation to good governance at the service.

Maypole Care Home is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care to up to 68 people. We reviewed 10 quality statements across 3 of the key questions. The manager had been in post for 3 months and was aware of the concerns and had begun to make some of the required improvements.

The service provides support to adults who have a physical disability or health condition, they also supported some people with a learning disability and autistic people. We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people, respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

Risks in relation to skin integrity needed some improvement. People, their relatives and staff gave mixed feedback about staffing levels. Most of the people and the relatives of people we spoke with, told us they felt the service was short staffed. Incidents and accidents were reported and investigated, and staff knew how to report concerns about people’s safety. Lessons learned were shared with staff formally and informally. People had been referred to other health professionals for their support when required. The environment was worn in places but there was a refurbishment plan in place, and we saw this work taking place during the inspection. Safety checks were carried out. In the main, medicines were managed safely.

The service used nationally recognised tools to assess people’s needs. Advice was sought from external health professionals when required.

We received positive feedback about the new management team from staff who told us they felt the service was “more organised.”
