We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessment and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it. We have taken these principles into account when assessing the service.

We started our assessment of the service on 4 March 2025 when we visited the service and finished our assessment on 9 April 2025 when we fed back to the provider.

We undertook this inspection to follow up on a breach of regulations found at our last assessment. At this assessment we found the breach had been met.

People were supported in a safe environment, staff supporting them had received the necessary training to guide them in their roles. There was sufficient staff in place to allow people to be safely supported and undertake social activities of their choice.

The risks to people’s safety were managed in a proactive way which allowed positive risk taking to widen people’s social circle and independence. Staff were also proactive in supporting people to reduce behaviours of anxiety using positive behaviour plans to support this.

The assessment of people’s needs was undertaken in a holistic way giving staff the information they needed to effectively support the people in their care.

Staff showed a good knowledge of how to support people in line with the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Where people’s liberty was restricted this was undertaken lawfully using the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) assessments.

People’s choice and independence was at the heart of the care they received. Staff supporting them worked in a way that enabled people to live as full a life as possible.

People, relatives and staff had the freedom to make their views known to the provider and felt they were listened to. The provider’s governance processes in place were used to continually improve the care people received.
