What inspectors found
From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 15 April 2024 (assessment visit 16 January 2024). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.
Caddington Grove is a care home registered to provide accommodation and personal care for up to 66 older people who may be living with a physical disability or dementia. At the time of our assessment 62 people were living at the service. Caddington Grove consists of three floors, and each specialises in supporting people with different needs. One floor supports people living with nursing needs, one floor supports people living with dementia and one floor supports people on a residential basis. The assessment commenced on 17 January 2024 and was completed on 08 February 2024. The assessment included a site visit by two inspectors, a member of the CQC medicines team and an Expert by Experience. An Expert by Experience is someone who has experience of using this type of service. We looked at all the quality statements for the Safe and Well-led key questions as part of this assessment. The service has achieved an overall rating of good across the two key questions. 3 quality statements under the safe key question- Learning Culture, Safeguarding and Medicines optimisation were scored as less than good, however we were assured that identified issues were already in the process of being addressed or would be addressed in a timely manner by the registered manager and provider. Please see the full report for details.

Safe
Good
Systems in place at the service to monitor accidents and incidents did not always identify trends and areas for improvement. People’s risk assessments and care plans sometimes needed more detail to help guide staff how to fully mitigate risks to people. Some, aspects of how people were supported with their medicines needed improvement. The registered manager and provider told us they would review these issues and were already in the process of doing this. People’s needs were assessed before they started using the service and staff supported people to see health professionals if they needed to do so. Environmental risk assessments related to the service, including fire safety were completed and staff completed regular checks to help ensure people were kept safe. There were enough staff to support people safely at all times of the day and staff were recruited safely. Staff had the training, knowledge and supervision to be effective in their job roles. The service looked clean, and staff followed good infection and prevention control (IPC) practices.

Some of the audits completed by the management team were not always effective in identifying areas for improvement. For example, in areas such as reviewing daily records to ensure they were completed fully. Some relatives felt communication from the management and staff team could be improved. These issues were already being addressed by the management team. The registered manager and provider had a clear vision for the service and worked with the staff team to help provide good care to people. The registered manager and provider understood their responsibilities and were keen to use audits to find and implement improvements at the service. People, relatives, and staff were supported to raise concerns, and these were taken seriously and responded to. Staff felt well supported in their roles and enjoyed working at the service. Staff worked well with other partners such as health professionals and the local community to help people achieve good outcomes. The management and staff team were open and honest through the assessment process and took our feedback seriously, starting to take action to continue to make improvements immediately.
