What inspectors found
From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 21 May 2026 (assessment visit 4 March 2026). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.
Date of assessment: 2 April 2026 Ashton Manor Nursing Home is a service offering accommodation, personal care and nursing care to people living with health conditions or dementia. At the time of our assessment 32 people were living at the service. The provider had not ensured that people were living in an environment that was appropriately maintained or could be effectively cleaned. We identified a poor standard of maintenance throughout the building, along with items and equipment that could not be reliably cleaned by staff. This placed people at an increased risk of infection and potential harm. As a result, the provider was in breach of safe care and treatment and good governance Although staffing levels were consistent with those described by the registered manager, there were periods during the day when staff were not effectively deployed. This meant some people did not receive the support they needed at lunchtime, particularly with eating their meals. The provider had also not ensured that people were given appropriate choice or control over their care and treatment. For example, everyone was provided with the same plastic, 2-handled beakers for drinks. Although the registered manager took steps to address some of these issues following our visit, this reflected a blanket approach to care rather than one tailored to individual needs. While the registered manager completed audits and reviews, these had failed to identify the concerns we found in relation to the environment, infection prevention and control, and staff deployment. We also found shortfalls in people’s care plans which included generic information, a lack of clear guidance in some plans, and 2 people’s pressure-relieving airflow mattresses were set incorrectly. Despite these shortfalls, people were supported by staff who had received appropriate training, understood how to recognise and report potential abuse, and knew people. Staff worked with external healthcare professionals and supported people to go out regularly where appropriate. The service was led by a registered manager who was open to feedback, keen to make improvements, and demonstrated a willingness to learn from accidents and incidents.
