Euxton Park care home is a nursing home and residential service which supports older people and those who require nursing care. The service can provide support for up to 63 people. At the time of assessment 40 people were living at the home.

The service was in breach of 2 legal regulations relating to safe care and treatment and good governance.

At the time of assessment there was no registered manager in post.

The inspection identified concerns with governance, oversight and risk management. Auditing systems were not always effective in identifying issues and risk assessments had not always been reviewed following incidents. We also found gaps in the recording of equipment safety checks and care records were not always updated in a timely manner. Environmental and equipment risks were not always effectively monitored, meaning people were not consistently protected from avoidable harm.

As a result, the provider was found to be in breach of Regulation 12 (safe care and treatment) and Regulation 17 (good governance). Improvements were required to strengthen quality assurance systems, management oversight and the consistent management of risk to ensure the service could demonstrate safe, effective and sustainable care.

In instances where CQC has begun a process of regulatory action, we may publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded, if the action has been taken forward

People received kind, compassionate and respectful care from staff who knew them well and understood their individual needs. People and relatives spoke positively about the caring approach of staff and felt involved in decisions about care and support.

The provider worked effectively with healthcare professionals to support people's health, wellbeing and safety. People received their medicines safely, staff followed good infection prevention and control practices, and care was planned and delivered in line with people's needs and preferences. Staff were trained and supported in their roles and committed to providing good quality care. The provider also promoted a positive culture of learning and improvement, using lessons learned from incidents and organisational learning to strengthen practice and improve outcomes for people.

People, relatives and staff had opportunities to provide feedback and contribute to service development. Staff described an open and supportive culture, felt able to raise concerns, and valued the training and development opportunities available to them. Relatives were involved in care planning and reviews, and people were supported to plan for their future wishes and goals.
