We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed autistic people and people with a learning disability respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. At the time of the assessment, the service was not supporting any autistic people or people with a learning disability where this was their presenting need, but the provider had regard to ‘Right support, right care, right culture’.

The provider had systems in place to monitor the safety and quality of the service. However, they had not identified all the issues we highlighted during our inspection. The registered manager was experienced, knowledgeable and responsive to our feedback.

Staff assessed potential risks to people, and took actions to mitigate these, however some records needed to be more robust. A range of environmental checks were undertaken. The management team took some action in relation to the nurse call bell system; as there had been some occasional issues with its functioning. Overall, the management team ensured any safeguarding concerns were reported in line with local procedures.

The provider had identified staff were not always working in line with the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005 and were taking action to improve this.

Feedback indicated there were enough staff to support people safely. Staff undertook induction and ongoing training. Where we identified some training gaps the registered manager took some immediate actions to provide this. Staff were positive, felt supported in their roles and were encouraged to progress at Station House. We noted some improvements were required in relation to staff usage of PPE, which the management team addressed straight away.

Staff developed care plans from initial assessments. The management team had been working with staff to improve the quality and consistency of the care plans. Staff effectively monitored people’s clinical needs and referred people for assessment and input from other professionals where necessary. The management team worked in partnership with others and promoted a learning culture.
