What inspectors found

From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 4 March 2026 (assessment visit 23 February 2026). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.

Grangewood Care Centre provides accommodation with personal care for up to 50 people. 48 people were living at the service when we visited, some of whom were living with dementia. We visited the home on 16 December 2025 and 27 January 2026. This unannounced assessment was triggered due to concerns about how staff responded to significant events in the home, including a serious medicines error following a hospital discharge and other health related concerns. This is a newly registered service.

The provider had acted robustly to ensure medicines administration processes were safe. Improved guidance, enhanced quality checks and staff training were in place to help ensure the medicines error was not repeated.

The provider had effective governance processes to identify issues and investigate and analyse incidents, accidents, safeguarding concerns and complaints.

The home was clean and well maintained. Environmental risk assessments and health and safety checks were carried out to help maintain a safe environment.

Staff gave positive feedback about their experience of working at Grangewood Care Centre. They told us staffing levels were usually good and felt people were safe. They described feeling supported and that teamwork was good. Health and safety risk assessments and checks were completed as expected.

People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives, and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible. The policies and systems in the service supported this practice.

People's needs had been assessed and preferences recorded. This information was used to develop personalised care plans and risk assessments, which were reviewed and updated as people's needs changed.

Staffing levels were monitored to help ensure there was sufficient staff deployed. New staff were recruited safely.

Food and fluid charts were completed consistently. However, it wasn’t always clear what action had been taken when people had not reached their daily fluid target. Other daily records were completed appropriately and included records of personal care completed.

Staff interacted positively with people. However, at times staff completed paperwork whilst supervising communal areas rather than interacting with people. There were many positive examples of people achieving outcomes and participating in events and activities both inside and out of the home.

There were good opportunities for people, relatives and staff to provide feedback and this was usually positive.
