The registered manager had worked at the service for several years and knew the people well. Staff received sufficient training and guidance to meet people’s needs. There were adequate staff deployed to meet people’s needs and keep them safe. Managers made sure staff received training and regular supervision to provide quality care. The provider liaised with other healthcare professionals to provide continuity of care and treatment, this ensured people had safe transitions and pathways of care if moving between different services. The registered manager carried out comprehensive pre-assessment checks prior to admission, ensuring people’s needs could be managed. The home was clean, equipment was well maintained, and environmental risks were safely managed. Medicines were stored and given safely, which was supported by suitable processes. Staff treated people with respect and kindness and delivered care which was person centred with risk assessments in place which were regularly reviewed and updated. We found further work was needed to ensure people had robust positive behaviour support strategies and monitoring in place to guide staff when people became distressed or anxious. People’s nutrition and hydration needs were met, though further improvements were needed to ensure there was effective monitoring and oversight to evidence people consumed sufficient daily fluids. There was a range of daily, meaningful activities offered which provided stimulation for people and ensured equity in access in line with people’s needs and preferences. Staff responded to make changes when necessary to ensure people’s needs were met. There was a culture of openness and a welcoming friendly atmosphere. People were encouraged to have choice and control over their lifestyle and daily routine, and the provider had required policies in place. Staff consulted with people to offer choices and encourage decision making. Further work was needed to ensure consent and best interest decisions were in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Staff described the service positively and embraced the provider’s values of personalised care where no person felt lonely. The registered manager was knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff to develop in their roles. Staff engaged well with people and other agencies, including the local community, to support people to achieve the best possible outcomes from their care.
