What inspectors found

From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 23 April 2026 (assessment visit 19 February 2026). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.

We carried out this assessment from 3 to 24 March 2026. Our assessment was prompted by concerns about care delivery. Walberton Place Care Home is a residential care home providing personal care for up to 80 people. Some people living at the home are living with dementia.
The home was clean and fresh and was kept clean by dedicated cleaning staff. Restaurant areas were managed by front of house staff with special training in nutrition and hydration, and in food hygiene. Staff were well trained and caring. Staff shared information to keep people safe and learned from incidents or accidents. Medicines were managed and administered safely. Staff worked well as a team. We saw this during our visit, and staff told us, "Communication within the team is good. We attend daily handovers/meetings to share updates about residents, risks, and care needs to ensure continuity and safety."
People can only be deprived of their liberty to receive care and treatment with appropriate legal authority. In care homes, this can be done through a procedure called the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), which is part of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA). We checked whether the service was working within the principles of the MCA and how they managed DoLS within the service. We found they were, and staff understood the importance of consent to care.
The registered manager used audits to monitor and improve the service and was well supported by the area manager and provider. Staff told us the new registered manager was bringing improvements to the home. A staff member said, "The new manager has brought positive changes to the home, including improved communication, stronger governance and a clear focus on maintaining our high standards of care. The changes have been well received by the team."
