At the time of our visit there was no registered manager in place. A registered manager is the person legally responsible for running of the service. The current manager was in the process of becoming registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
We found that people were safe. There were enough staff on duty. Staff were trained and recruited appropriately. Staff knew people really well and spoke about them with kindness and compassion. Staff received regular supervisions and participated in team meetings. Staff enjoyed working at South Cary House. People received their medicines safely as prescribed.
There were systems in place to provide feedback, and we saw evidence that feedback was acted on. Managers were visible and had oversight of the service through spot checks and daily walkarounds.
There was a well-maintained garden space which people could use. We found some issues with the safety of the environment, which the manager acted on. Prior to our assessment, the manager was in the process of strengthening their governance systems and began implementing new checks.
