What inspectors found

From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 17 September 2024 (assessment visit 21 June 2024). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.

This responsive assessment was carried out to check if the service had made improvements since our last inspection. This assessment was carried out by one Assessor and two Inspectors. Assessment activity started on 8 July 2024 and ended on 20 August 2024. We carried out the site visit on 11 July 2024. We looked at 15 quality statements as part of this assessment.

The Paddocks is a residential care home providing accommodation with personal care for up to 8 people living with a learning disability. At the time of this assessment, 7 people were living at the service. People living in the home have their own bedrooms and there are shared communal spaces, including lounges, a kitchen and a garden area. We found improvements had been made with sharing learning with staff members following incidents to minimise the risk of reoccurrence.

We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it.

  1. Safe

    Good

Staff were recruited safely to ensure they were suitable to work with vulnerable people. Lessons were learnt following incidents and accidents to improve the service. Some improvements were required to ensure safeguarding systems were robust.

There were enough staff to support people safely. Some parts of the kitchen needed improvements to minimise the spread of infections. Medicines were being managed safely. Premises safety checks had been carried out. Staff were supported through supervisions. However, required training in some areas to consistently perform their roles effectively.

  2. Well-led

    Good

Quality assurance systems were in place to ensure people received safe and personalised support. Quality monitoring systems were in place to ensure people’s feedback were sought to make improvements to the service. Systems were in place for staff to raise concerns. The care home worked in partnership with external professionals to ensure people were in the best of health. Learning took place following audits and feedback to ensure there is a culture of continuous improvement. Relatives and staff were positive about the management of the home.
