We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’. This guidance supported judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choice, independence and access to local communities that most people take for granted.

People received care from a staff team who were trained and had been safely recruited. Risks to people’s health and well-being had been assessed and guidance was available for staff about how to safely support them. There were systems in place to escalate concerns for people’s safety, and the provider was aware of their responsibilities to report any concerns to the relevant agencies. People received their medicines as prescribed and staff followed infection control procedures to protect them from the risk of cross infection.

People’s needs were assessed and regularly reviewed with them and their family members where appropriate. People’s diverse needs were known and considered and the staff and management team worked in partnership with other agencies to meet their care needs. People were asked for their consent before care was provided and people’s mental capacity had been considered to ensure they were in control of their care and involved in any decisions.

Staff were compassionate and caring in their approach and spoke fondly of the people they supported. People were supported to do as much as they could for themselves and staff treated them with dignity.

People’s care was designed around them and their needs. People’s communication needs had been considered, and they were given opportunities to give feedback about the support they received. There was a system in place to ensure any complaints were effectively managed. Where people received support at the end of their lives, their wishes were respected and clear plans were in place to ensure they were treated with dignity.

Feedback received about the provider was positive. Staff felt supported in their roles and there was a strong culture of respect and compassion for people. The registered manager carried out audits and checks to monitor the quality and safety of the service, and people and staff were supported to share their views and feedback. The provider ensured learning was taken from incidents and events, and this was shared with the staff team to ensure the quality of care and people’s experiences were improved.
